St Helens Canal (The Hotties)

Address

Saint Helens, Merseyside WA10 1FY, United Kingdom

Fishery Information

This canal is called the hotties due to the nearby factory pumping hot water into it. Apparently, years ago it was that warm that there was tropical fish living in here and it also made the fish grow really big.

It is still known as the hotties but the factory has gone and no hot water is pumped into this section anymore.

It’s still a great section of the canal and there’s good fishing to be had. The water is very clear.

The only downside to this section is that it’s located in the town center so don’t expect a quiet day’s fishing as people will come and chat to you and ask what you have been catching.

What size do the fish go to?

There are carp to 20lb in this section of the canal.

What tactics work well?

People prefer to fish the pole on this section. Anything from 5 to 16 meters works really well for the smaller silverfish. If it’s the bigger fish you are after then we recommend using a feeder or bomb.

What facilities are on-site?

There are no facilities on site but you are close to many shops and pubs. This makes it great for if you run out of bait or fancy a quick pint on the way home.

Is parking available?

Parking is available nearby in the town centre but its not free parking.
