Fishery Information

Fishing the River Cuckmere can be extremely rewarding, but it is a dangerous place to fish as well. The river is extremely deep, and anglers have been known to fall in. If you are going to fish the River Cuckmere, you first need a membership from Southdown Angling Association, and then you need to be very careful. There are plenty of large fish to be caught in the river, but you can’t catch them if you are also in the river.

What size do the fish go to?

It’s difficult to give exact numbers of how big the fish grow in this river. It is a river, after all, so the fish travel up and down, in and out of the reach of the club members. All we can say is that the fish in the river are big and plentiful. There are bream, tench, roach, rudd, eels, pike, dace and some carp to target.

What tactics work well?

There are very fast sections of the river that are difficult to fish, but not impossible. Sticking to the bottom of the river, either with a heavyweight or a closed feeder, is a good option on these parts. For the slower sections of the river, just about any method will work, but again, bottom baits will catch you the larger fish.

What facilities are on site?

There are no facilities as such, but some public toilets are available close to the river.

Is parking available?

Public car parks are available.
