Fishery Information

Witham Friary Lakes has two lakes totalling about 3 acres in size. The site has very good parking and access. The bottom lake was stocked with over 4,000 fish in 2017. Tench, roach, rudd, bream and carp are now all present and all growing happily.

The larger lake on the complex is where the bigger carp hang out, but there is also plenty of silverfish and a few tench to catch here. There is also rumours of pike, but the new owners aren’t sure about this yet.

What size do the fish go to?

The bottom lake has good quality carp up to 14lbs, while the larger lake has carp up to about 21lbs. This is a young site, though, with many of the fish only going into the lake in 2017. It is very likely these fish will grow quickly, so there is a real chance they are even bigger than this right now!

What tactics work well?

The smaller of the lakes is a match anglers dream with lilies and reeds dotted around the whole lake. If you place a feeder next to these lilies, the fish will come. A nicely baited area with a float and some corn could also provide an excellent day’s fishing. The larger lake works best with carp techniques. Boilies are a solid choice here. While they have cleaned a lot of the weed out of the lake, it is still present, so a pop-up is ideal.

What facilities are on site?

There is a new toilet block, and there are three swims available with wheelchair access.

Is parking available?

Yes, parking is available.
