Fishery Information

Charlton Ponds is controlled and operated by Billingham Angling Club. The larger pond is reserved for members of the club, but the smaller pond is available for day tickets holders too. The smaller pond can give potential club members a taste of what the club is all about. Well managed, beautiful lakes with some stunning fish to be caught.

Charlton Ponds are set into the beauty of Charlton Nature Reserve. This provides a very peaceful atmosphere to fish in if only the fish knew that. When fished properly, both of these lakes can be very rewarding.

What size do the fish go to?

The members-only lake at Charlton Ponds holds carp to over 24lbs. There are also bream, rudd, roach, tench and crucian carp, all to good weights too. The larger lake is just over 8 acres in size and is heavily fished by carp anglers, but this can give match-style anglers an edge if their tactics are right.

What tactics work well?

There are no islands in the big lake. Many of the larger carp keep to the middle of the lake, so a long, precise cast to clear areas out there is important. A bright bottom bait is a good way of getting a quick bite. PVA bags are often used here with great results. You can also grab a few bites in the margins.

What facilities are on site?

There are double disabled pegs available on both ponds with easy access from the car park.

Is parking available?

Yes, parking is available.
