Fishery Information

Owned and operated by the South Cerney Angling Club, Ham Pool is not only very scenic but it is the home of the Club’s licensed clubhouse and bar.

Fringed with lily pads throughout the spring and summer, this spot is eight acres in size and ranges a dozen feet deep.

The Club has kept the lake well-stocked over the years, with a good dose of chub showing up in December of 2017.

Carp, bream, tench, pike, perch, roach, and crucians are making an impact in Ham Pool, so be on the lookout.

What size do the fish go to?

Carp in Ham Pool range to nearly 40 pounds. Anglers can look forward to double-digit bream and tench, while pike have been known to crack 30 pounds.

What tactics work well?

Ham Pool is designed for members only, which means users must be prepared to show their membership books at all times.

The South Cerney Angling Club does have some rules, with all fish to be taken in by “fair angling.”

Unhooking mats must be used at all times and fish may not be transferred to another lake under any circumstances.

Bathing and swimming are prohibited in club waters. Radios, televisions, guns, generators, and musical instruments of any size and type are not allowed at Ham Pool, so leave the trombone at home.

Swims may not be reserved. Members are limited to the use of one swim at a time.

Those with a second membership book may use up to three rods.

What facilities are on site?

There are toilets and showers on the premises with access for disabled patrons. The aforementioned “Fishermen’s Rest” clubhouse and bar is also located at Ham Pool.
