Located in serene location near Durham, the River Wear offers a fantastic day’s sport to the keen Trout angler. The stretch of water runs approximately 2.5 miles and boasts an array of fishing features. The mature trees that run adjacent to the water offer privacy as well as a home to numerous wildlife species. Furthermore, there are several pools and small Islands that run along the stretch.

The location is notorious for its healthy selection of Trout. However, it also boasts a good number of Salmon, especially from the end of June onwards. Additionally, the venue is not too far from the main road, and also has a number of footpaths that lead directly to it. Therefore, the waters are easily accessible to all anglers.

What size do the fish go to?

Salmon are most commonly found in double figures, with the largest specimen exceeding 15lbs. Moreover, both Brown and Rainbow Trout hit double figures on a regular basis, with the bigger fish reaching 18lbs.

Anglers typically like to utilise crankbaits, jigs, and spoons. Furthermore, using minnows generally helps to entice the larger fish.
