Fishery Information

Controlled by the York & District Amalgamation of Anglers, Sand Hutton Gravel Pit is sheltered by surrounding woodlands. It is known as one of YDAA’s prettiest lakes. Since this venue has a limited number of swims, it can be quite busy at times.

This idyllic site is home to quality bream, roach, tench, rudd, perch, pike and large carp. This fishing site is not available for match bookings.

To get there, follow these directions. Travelling from York, take the A64 to (Scarborough) turning right to Sand Hutton (DEFRA Labs) just after the Tanglewood Pub. Pits are roughly three quarters of a mile down this road on the right. At the present time parking is in the lay by or at roadside.

What size do the fish go to?

What tactics work well?

Pole or waggler will catch fish close in. Popular baits include maggot, caster, worm, sweetcorn and bread. The feeder is known to produce good catches of bream when casting to the gravel bar in the middle of the lake.
