Fishery Information

Beehive Woodland Lakes is situated towards the south of rural Derbyshire. This perfect destination for families and fishing enthusiasts is well placed for easy access from Burton, Birmingham, Derby, Leicester, Lichfield, Nottingham and Tamworth.

With over 66 acres of attractive woodland to explore, it offers a lot of fun ways to enjoy the national forest such as camping, caravanning and fishing. Fall in love with its developing wildlife and 3 magnificent fishing lakes (Botany Bay, Horseshoe and Jubilee).

The Botany Bay Lake has 31 pegs. It is 7 to 13 feet deep and stocked with roach, rudd, bream, tench, perch, carp and gudgeon.

The Jubilee Lake (silver fish lake) has 29 pegs. It is 8 feet deep all around and stocked with roach, rudd, golden rudd, bream, crucian carp, perch, carp and gudgeon.

The Horseshoe Lake has 38 pegs. It is 6 to 8 feet deep and stocked with roach, rudd, golden rudd, bream, tench, perch, carp and gudgeon.

Day tickets (1 Rod and 2 Rod) and junior day tickets (1 Rod, for anglers 11 years old and below) are available.

Anglers and visitors 16 years old and below need to be supervised by an adult.

Dogs are not allowed by the lakes and should always be kept on a leash anywhere on the site.

Other fishing rules: catch and release only (no keep nets), true Barbless hooks only (numbers 22 – 8), no braided line, sliding feeders only (no fixed method feeders), one landing net per person (nets should not be shared between anglers), wet hands only when handling fish (no cloths), unhooking mats can be used for larger fish, no bait tins allowed at the lakes, and no night fishing.

What size do the fish go to?

The lakes are up to 13 feet deep and well-stocked with bream that weigh up to 4 lbs, carp up to 26 lbs, roach up to 2 lbs, and tench up to 6 lbs.

What tactics work well?

Beehive Woodland Lakes have bait rules. Dog meat, cat meat, nuts, boilies, pellets, pastes, bloodworms, joker, seeds, pulses, tares are not allowed. Hemp and sweet corn are allowed.

There is a 1 kg dry weight maximum limit on ground bait. Lure fishing and floating bait in matches are not allowed. Left over bait should be taken home and should not be thrown into the lakes or onto the banks.

What facilities are on site?

There are children’s play area, potwash, showers and toilets available on site. Other facilities include heated family rooms, family toilets, indoor washing up areas, washing machine, tumble dryer, refuse bins, Elsan and grey water points, Calor Gas/Camping Gaz exchange, refreezing ice packs and reception that sells basic supplies.

Caravans, motorhomes, pods and tents can be booked online.

The Botany Bay Lake has platforms suitable for disabled fishermen and easy access from the nearby free car parking.
